What Is "Provably Fair" Gambling? The Simple Explanation

Provably fair is the most important safety feature on any Roblox gambling site. Here is how it works in plain English.

"Provably fair" is a phrase you will see on every reputable Roblox gambling site. It is the single best safety feature the online gambling industry has ever developed. Here is what it actually means.

The problem provably fair solves

Traditional casinos could rig their games and you would never know. If a roulette wheel is biased, if a deck of cards is stacked, if a slot machine is tight — the player has no way to verify. You just have to trust the casino.

How provably fair works

Before the bet is placed, the site generates a random number (the server seed) and publishes a cryptographic hash of it. The hash is a one-way fingerprint — you cannot work out the seed from it. You, the player, also provide a client seed of your own.

When the bet resolves, the game combines the server seed, client seed, and a nonce (a counter) to produce the outcome. After the bet, the server seed is revealed. You can then hash it yourself and confirm it matches the hash the site published before the bet. If it matches, the site could not have changed the outcome after seeing your bet — it was cryptographically committed in advance.

Why this matters

It means the site has no way to rig individual bets against you. The house edge is built into the game's probabilities, which are published openly. But any individual bet cannot be manipulated.

How to verify bets yourself

Every reputable site has a "verify" page where you can paste the server seed, client seed, and nonce from any past bet and reconfirm the outcome. If the numbers check out, the site is genuinely provably fair. If they do not, walk away immediately.
